Christmas With Johnny Cash
We have caught the Holiday Spirit like you wouldn't believe. The weather is cool. We've got the Christmas music
cranked up, we are building bonfires every weekend and drinking either egg nog or hot coa coa almost every night. We
are trying to watch all of our favorite Christmas programs but most of them are still boxed up in storage somewhere. We
are temporarily living in a mobile home while waiting on the carriage house to get done and you know what? It isn't all
that bad. Sure it's cramped, but it's like camping out with running water, heat and an indoor kitchen. I am sure that this
Christmas season will go down as one of our most memorable. By the way, thanks to Cory Callahan (Uncle Cory as
he's known around our house) for taking awesome Christmas pictures of the girls.
Today was quite an eventful day. Early this morning I loaded up the horses and girls to take them to the Devonwood
Horse Show. Then I picked up a bobcat tractor to do some clearing. Then after about 20 minutes of clearing I ran it up a
tree and turned it over. I quickly decided it was a job I was not cut out for. After my awesome neighbors helped me flip it
back over, I took it back to the store and went to the horse show since I unexpectedly found myself with a free day. When I
got to the show I saw Melanie by the fence watching the riders and she was hold a cute little puppy. I walked over and
said 'Hey, what a cute puppy. Whose is it?' expecting it to belong to one of the other horse mom's who all brought dogs
to the shows. Melanie had on these big sunglasses so I could not have seen her eyes anyway, but she didn't respond to
my question. In fact, she ignored me and started talking to one of her friends. I knew she heard me because I was right
there petting the puppy that she was holding. Just then, the girls came running up, 'Daddy, daddy. Do you see our new
puppy?' And that was how I first met our newest family member Tilly. The girls new I wouldn't be a tough sell though. I
love dogs. Tilly will be the perfect farm dog and we couldn't live without her already.
Melanie is the ultimate 'gift sniffer'. Every year she can figure out just about every gift I get her by her line of questioning
and snooping. It is really hard to surprise her. But this year I surprised her royally. Now though Melanie seeks to spoil
surprises, she actually loves them. The fact that she makes it so hard to surprise her is probably why she loves
surprises the way she does. Well we were done with our giving of gifts from under the tree and sitting around when I
looked at the girls and said, ''You know, I think I forgot something.' I disappeared into the bedroom and came out with the
'Rock Band' set for Wii. The girls freaked! Melanie knew I was saving this for an after-gift gift so she wasn't surprised.
She was surprised however when I said, 'Oh wait, I almost forget.' I put on my gloves and rubber boots and walked out
the door and into the woods. Back on a trailed I had hid a John Deere Gator. When I pulled it around to the house you
could hear there screams a mile off I am sure. They ran out of the house and hopped on. I gave the keys to Captain
Melanie and we were off for the next our tearing up the trails. Mel is a crazy driver.
After we got off the Gator we got dressed up and headed to Downtown Disney to meet up with Mimi C and Poppi for a
wonderful Christmas Lunch at Fulton's. When our tummy's were full we drove home and spent the rest of the night
playing 'Maps and Mississippi Queen' (the girls two favorite songs) on Rock Band. We had an awesome day. We hope
you had an awesome and memorable Christmas Day too.
