Aviles got Grand Champion in her division again this GOHJA. Her and Cookie just did an amazing job. Alaila can't wait
to compete too. We are hoping that by spring she will be able to. Melanie's friend Carolyn just got a horse trailer with a
living quarters so they hung out until late after the show grilling up food and relaxing at the campsite right next to the
Clarcona Horseman's Park where the GOHJA event is held. This horse show deal is as much about the lifestyle than
the horses I think. Hanging out with family and friends, encouraging each other and relaxing with the same intensity you
work with. I am really beginning to warm up to it more and more. Not that I was ever opposed to it. I just never
envisioned a life with horses like this. It's kind of cool when life throws you an unexpected curve ball (in a good way).
While Melanie and Aviles were busy with the horses, me and Alaila and Amarige went cruising in the Valiant. Actually, we
had some errands to run and when we went to get in my car we discovered a bit screw in the back left tire. We went to
get it fixed but I have run-flat tires and they didn't have a run flat technician available until Monday. So instead of letting
that ruin our day, we decided to shine the Valiant up and turn our errand running into a cruise. We even stopped by Sonic
to get a few Slushes. It was a beautiful day and I am so glad we had a chance to do this. The girls are awesome
cruising chicks.
This morning Avile and I got up at 5am. We had the truck loaded with all the tack and took off to Clarcona to the
Horseman's Park where they are having the Seminole County 4-H Open Horse Show. Melanie can't take her because
she is obligated to go hock Girl Scout cookies with Alaila at the Publix in Winter Park. When we got in the car to leave the
air was balmy, clam and about 70 degrees. By the time we got to the park at around 5:30, a cold wind had picked up and
the temperature had dropped about 10 degrees. Our friend Olivia had braided Spirits mane and tail and it looked great.
At about 9am the rain started and didn't let up until right before Aviles took the ring at about 1:30pm. It was challenging
for the horses to be competing in all the mud and water. This was Aviles' first time in Short Stirrup (18" jumps) so we
were nervous. Can you believe that she and Spirit got Grand Champion in the Short Stirrup Division (12 and under)?
My sister Caprill and her boys Noel and Jack came down from Massachusetts to visit the family this past week. It was
good to see them. Her boys are growing up so quickly too. It was Jack's birthday so they all came over with Mimi C and
Poppi to celebrate. Caprill and Devin seem to be starting a little farm up there in Massachusetts complete with goats
(one pregnant I hear) and chickens and the works. We hope to make a trip up there to see them sometime. Maybe this
Fall.
