Melanie and the girls headed up north to Michigan for the month of June.  There is nothing like the feeling of going
'home'.  I remember what an awesome time I would have going up to Soddy Daisy, Tennessee in the summers to visit
with Mamaw, Papaw and all of my cousins.  Those are such special memories and I am so happy that my daughters are
getting a chance to make those same kinds of memories.  As pleasant as the winters are down in Florida, the summers
are even more so in Michigan.  One day, when we retire, or when we hit upon that million-dollar idea, whichever comes
first, we will spend all summer, every summer and part of the fall in Michigan.  Melanie and I have some very special
places in Chelsea, Ann Arbor and Manchester (like the DQ) that we have to visit every time we are in town.  We are
looking forward to a wonderful vacation.
It's father's day today and we are on Mackinac Island.  If heaven is as amazing as Mackinac Island is, I can't wait to go.
My lovely ladies and I went to church at the Little Stone Church.  It is like stepping right back in time here.  There are no
cars, only bicycles and horses.  No sounds of motors, just the clip pity-clop of hooves.  It is completely enchanting.  I got
a new video camera for father's day and Aviles and Alaila and I have set about making a short film.  Aviles has been
inspired by Nancy Drew recently so it's mystery.  Since we are on Mackinac Island it involves an Indian treasure.  After
finding a map they are given clues by the ghost of an Indian girl.  It should be fun.  It is warm by Upper Peninsula
standards (80 degrees) so the girls and I are going to bike down to British Landing, have an Ice Cream at the
Cannonball and take a dip in Lake Huron.
Melanie's mom, Vicki, came to the Island to stay with us yesterday, but we got an extra surprise visitor.  Mimi V. (Vicki)
came to the cottage in a horse taxi and we got her luggage inside.  We were sitting down talking about her journey when
Aviles looked out the window and said, "It's Mimi C!"  Vicki had collaborated with my mother and kept her trip a secret.  It
was all screams and hugs for about 15 minutes.  Ever since the first time I saw Mackinac Island (which is when I asked
Melanie to marry me) I knew it would be a place that my mother would thoroughly enjoy.  So after 10 years of begging her,
she finally came.  I can't wait to show her all our favorite spots on the island.  Today we went to the Fort to learn the
history of Ft. Mackinac and we had lunch at the Tea Room.  It's one of the best views on the island.  This trip will be over
way too soon.
Yesterday we went to Cedar Point with Uncle Rob, Aunt Dawn and their kids Emma and Jake.  Cedar Point is where they
have some of the biggest and fastest roller coasters in the world.  We had an awesome time.  We closed the park.  We
did wake up this morning a little sore from being thrown all around like we were though.  Today Melanie and I took Aviles
to the Chelsea Teddy bear company to pick out a birthday bear and the we headed downtown Ann Arbor to eat lunch at
B.D.'s Mongolian Barbecue.  This has become a tradition for us.  After that unfortunately, they took me to the airport to
catch a flight home.  I have to go back home to take care of business.  Daddy's summer vacation is officially over.  The
girls have another several days of fun then they will follow me home as well.  This Michigan summer vacation was about
as good as it could have been.
